Conference call with Arqiva

On the 5 of February the transmission team which includes myself, Nojan Jadidi, Aidan Flanagan and Marc Walsh the Degree Show event producer had a conference call meeting with the company Arqiva. In the meeting it was discussed how they could help us transmit the show by lending some key equipment. In the transmission rack in CAR we currently have two SD encoders, a multiplexer, a test modulator. So we kindly asked the if they could lend us an HD encoder with the possibility of having a second one for redundancy, omni directional antenna, transmitter, to do something different from last year we decided to add subtitles and 5.1 audio to our transmission so we kindly requested in addition from Arqiva a subtitle inserter/ encoder and a Dolby-E encoder. As they expected us to give something back, Marc Walsh kindly prepared for them a sponsorship package for the Degree Show.  We also asked for a spectrum plot to add on our Ofcom licence.

An email as been sent to Dominic and Daniel from Arqiva. I'm looking forward to hear from them.

Reflection:

The conference call was really a challenging thing for me. The thing that scared me the most was the language barrier because I was going to talk with highly technical people so I needed to be ready. Overall for my personal prospective it didn't go really well for me. I was insecure and unsure about some questions they had for me. I think I could have prepared this better with my colleagues, I could have done more research on transmission and have a more detailed plan about what we wanted to achieve.
